Winter Wonderland

Christmas was especially rememorable this year because on Christmas night, we received over 2 feet of snow. Although it was beautiful with the sun shining, I think I can officially say... I am sick of winter. :) I don't think it stopped snowing the entire time I was home. It was a nice Christmas despite the weather. It is always nice to spend time with my family. On the 27th my nephew was married so that was an added bonus to the Christmas festivities. Hope everyone had a nice, safe and enjoyable Christmas.

Holiday Lights

Hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving. I went home and spent it with my parents, sister and brother and their families. It's always nice to be with family. Last night I went with my friend Andree' and her mom to Temple Square to see the lights. I hadn't been there in a couple of years so it was nice to go and check them out. Hope everyone has a safe and happy Holiday season.

Week 3 of Personal Training

Well I'm happy to announce I lost 4 lbs this past week. So a total of 6 overall. Some of the exercises are getting a little bit easier, but most of it is still kicking my butt. :)

Personal Training

Well as promised, I'm going to keep you up to date on the personal training sessions. First off I'd like to say that I have never had such intense workouts in my life! My first training session I couldn't walk for four days. Even squatting to use the bathroom was a chore. With that regard, you hope for big weight loss results.. but unfortunately...it doesn't always happen that way. I just completed my second week of training going twice a week. My first week I lost 4 lbs with a 1% body fat increase, and this week... gained 2 lbs and down .03% body fat. I don't get it! I know I need to work in more cardio, but I feel I'm doing my best. It's hard not to look at the numbers and be a bit discouraged. But on a lighter note, I am feeling healthier and no matter what the scale says, it seems my jeans are feeling a bit more loose. Maybe it's my imagination. :) Tonight's work out was 265 squats, 210 situps, 120 push ups, 10 sets of ladders up and back, and 4 sets of 15 grad and hamstring lifts on the machines. Not all at the same time of course, but when you add the numbers from the workout, that's pretty incredible. Who knew I had it in me. :)

Halloween

So I know I'm a few days late, but I am finally getting my pictures off my cell phone. Halloween was a fun night. Just went to a couple of parties with some good friends. I dressed as Cleopatra. Another friend of mine, Latch, dressed at Cruella Deville and another friend Jared, dressed as a scary scarecrow. His makeup was amazing. Anyway here are some pictures from the evening.

My Birthday!

Yesterday was my 34th birthday. It was a great day starting out with my parents coming down and taking me to lunch. It was nice to have my parents make the effort to see me. Later that evening my great friends organized a sushi party for me. I had a lot of friends show up, even a surprise guest, my best friend Zach flew in from Denver and surprised me at my party. I was especially surprised at the gift I was given. Andree', another best friend of mine and an organizer of the party, sent an email to many of my friends asking if they would like to donate money to get me personal training sessions at a gym she has been attending. I was so shocked and moved by it that I actually cried. So thank you everyone who donated for my healthy and well being. :) I will keep you posted when I start the training... I am SOOOO nervous. :) Thanks again everyone for texts, phone calls etc. It was a great day! Love you all.

Math 1050

Why does math have to be so complicated and when am I ever going to need to complete a square or use a quadratic equation. I'm just trying to get a degree in Horticulture, not be a rocket scientist. Blah!

A little hike with a friend

Today I took a little hike with my friend Andree'. It was a great time to head up the canyon and see the wonderful fall colors on the trees. We did a hike up Big Cottonwood Canyon called Donut Falls. It was a nice hike and a beautiful day to do it.

My other half :)

I don't know how many of you have been introduced to my other half. She is nearly 4 years old and is a great companion to me. Might be my only one. :) Her name is Lachey. Named after Nick Lachey... some of you might know who he is haha. You know how they say you look like your pet. Well I guess you could say I look like a cat, and she is cute. But her personality is that of a cat. She is very independent until it's about bedtime, then she wants to be in my lap. Or worse when I go to bed she's laying right by my side. Guess she's good practice for me to share the bed. Every time I go to do my homework at the table, she is there laying on all the books and papers. I heard that cats are responsible for 67% of illteracy. lol Anyway, I enjoy her, she's my little baby.

Going Home

A few weeks ago, I went home for a little family reunion. I stayed over night at my parents house in Cub River. I can't even begin to tell you the peace and comfort I felt. I don't know if it's just being where your parents are just just being in the mountains that brought this feeling to me. Probably a combination of both. At night, the canyon breeze started as I could hear the river rolling and crickets singing. It brought such joy to me. Layin in bed that night, I teared up and thought I never want to go back to the big city. But I knew I had to come back. So hear I am back in the big city, but I know I will always have a place at my "home" in Idaho.

Riding Trax

So I've become quite the little trax rider these days. Sometimes when I am meeting friends downtown, I will ride trax instead of the hassle of trying to find a parking space or better yet... just the gas money. So Saturday I buy a one way pass to downtown for $2.00 and meet my friend at the Farmer's Market. We enjoy our walk around the market and then go to lunch. My friend drops me off at the nearest trax station and I notice my ticket has expired (you have two hours to make the return trip on the same ticket). All I have is a $10 bill and I don't want to break my $10 and get $8 back in coins. So I think to myself, I'm just going to chance it. All the times I've ridden trax I have never been asked for my ticket. So I wait and wait for the train. While waiting the downtown train comes by and drops off two UTA security guys. With them is a young man handcuffed. Hmmm.... I start thinking, maybe I should just buy a pass. NAH... I'm gonna chance it. So as I wait I have the devil and angel on my shoulders. I overhear another UTA worker talking to ladies that they need to buy a pass, don't get caught without one. UGH... so I go to the ticket machine and pull out my wallet... and thought again, no.... I'm gonna chance it. Finally my train arrives and I end up on the same cart as the security dudes and the handcuffed individual. I just sit quietly and looking non-suspicious. :) They finally get off one stop before mine and then another UTA security dude gets on... and what is his first words???? YEP! "Can I see your ticket please." UGH! At first I just pretended not to hear him, then he asked again. I reluctantly got my expired ticket out of my pocket and handed it to him and waited for my punishment.... and what he did is he glanced at it, and handed it back to me. What a relief! Guess I have learned my lesson. Just buy a ticket, no matter the cost or breaking of a bill. It's not worth the anxiety. :)

The Ex

There's nothing worse than running into your ex, but it makes it especially hard when you've been wronged by them. I ran into my ex on Friday night at a Salt Lake Bee's game. I haven't seen or spoken to him since December. My heart was beating so hard and fast I swear you could have seen it.... and the lack of breathing doesn't help. I suppose it had to happen sooner or later. It was a difficult meeting, but I'm glad it happened. I know that doesn't make sense, but I think it will be a stepping stone to letting go of him and the things that happened.

Drive-in movie

There are few things you learn to do on your own living the single life. One of them is not going to a drive-in movie by yourself. Last Saturday night a married couple invited me to go to the drive-in movie with them and their two children. I thought hey, I might as well, what else do I have going on. My friends told me which movies they were would be attending with the children and to meet them at 8:00pm. Of course I am on time and pick the perfect spot, I kick the seat back a bit and enjoy listening to music as I wait. A few minutes later I get a call from my friend saying that they will not be coming. Panic sets in! What am I do to at a drive in by myself? I called a few friends, called my mom, and talked myself into staying for at least the first movie. First movie, Nim's Island. Not such a hot movie. Second movie, Horton Hears a Who. Well as the night went on, I decided that maybe this wasn't such a bad thing. It was kind of nice to be alone in your car, having control of the sound. My only advice would be to pack extra food. :)

Life in the Big City Part 2

Well my unlucky luck... if that makes sense, is still with me. On March 29, 2008 I went out to my car around noon to start running some errands, only to find out my car had been broken into and items had been stolen. Of course my first reaction was a break down. Next was to call the police. They soon will just start a file for me. :) The police officer came and took pictures and asked questions and also asked what had been taken. The criminals took items that were ridiculous. The completely wiped out my glove box, including my registration and insurance card. They took a sleeping bag, blanket, coolant, umbrella, sunglasses, sunglass visor clip, my money change holder and my cell phone charger. I sure hope they at least made $10 off me. Stupid people!!!! So this week has been consumed with car repair. I am also getting a car alarm installed on Thursday. I've about had enough of criminal mischief.

Life in the Big City Part 1

Some of you may have known about my traumatic experience on February 9th, 2008. At 12:30am, I was laying on the couch, snuggled up in a blanket watching tv when I heard a lot of commotion outside. After listening to it for a few minutes, I got up and looked out my front window. When looking out I noticed a man standing on the sidewalk in front of my window. Just as I pulled away from window, a loud crash of glass came into my condo. I began screaming and asking the guy who he was looking for. He wasn't saying much and continued to break my windows. I immediately called 911 where I tried to compose myself to give them the details of my emergency. As I was speaking to the 911 gentleman, the suspect went around to the other side of my condo and continued to break those windows out as well. The 911 guy, for my safety, told me to go into the bathroom and lock the door. I wasn't sure if the suspect was coming in or not. Soon enough, the police showed up and began asking me questions. As the police officer was here, they located the suspect and arrested and charged with criminal mischief. He had broken out 3 of the 4 windows at my condo and several others surrounding me. I am lucky to have such great friends Andree' and Joe who immediately came over and helped me clean up glass and cardboard my windows. It was very terrifying. It will haunt me for quite some time.
